Support Expanded Category Navigation Functionality with CatalogPathDataPreProcessor

Expanded category navigation is supported using the hierarchy preprocessor and is a common implementation.

"Expanded category navigation displays all of the products that belong to the immediate category and its subcategories."

The CatalogPathDataPreProcessor is designed for enhanced efficiency yet should support the same common functionality as the hierarchy preprocessor.

How will this idea be used?

Who it benefits: This idea will benefit all companies that use the CatalogPathDataPreProcessor for noticeable performance benefits during preprocessing. The Hierarchy preprocessor may take significantly longer.

Why it is important: Currently, all companies that use the CatalogPathDataPreProcessor cannot implemented expanded category navigation, which directly impacts their storefronts and the shopper experience. The hierarchy preprocessor does support this functionality, so clients are frustrated that after switching to the CatalogPathDataPreProcessor, a core functionality component is not supported.
