Currently in Commerce v9 the search process doesn't provide a lot of feedback.
The process documented here: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSZLC2_9.0.0/com.ibm.commerce.search.doc/tasks/tsdsearchbuildindex.htm, talks about a 2 step process:
- issue the command to build the index,
- issue the command to check the job status
In environments with a small set of data this can be fast and easy to check, but in environments with larger data sets, the process can take minutes/hours to complete. Having a flag that reports on the status of the job is very inaccurate and very frustrating to understand the actual status of the job.
Question that I often get are: how much longer? at what time did we started? how do I find out when is done? what does -1 means, did the english build finished? where is it stuck at..?
The implementation before consisted of 3 steps now it consist of one, for setup and 2 for building the index, now it consist of 1 step, but it lacks of output to understand the process.
